Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations across the region in response for a "massive" and continuing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any damage is uncertain and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - stated they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck locations associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted missile fragments fell on a residential area in the capital, resulting in some material damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
